Munch, Edvard Biography
(1863-1944)
A Norwegian painter, was one of the forerunners the Berlin Sezession in 1899.
Formally, Edvard Munch was much influenced by van Gogh and Gauguin but his
subjects deal with basic themes of love and death, for which he sought pictorial
equivalents. His art, though sometimes powerful, is always neurotic and
frequently hysterical such as his famous The Scream.
Edvard Munch’s famous oil paintings include:
- Evening on Karl Johan Street
- Madonna
- Melancholy (Laura)
- The Dance of Life
- The Dance on the Shore
- The Scream
- Anxiety
- Girls on the Jetty
- Fertility
