Cross, Henri-Edmond Biography
(1856-1910)
Henri-Edmond Cross, (20 May 1856 – 16 May 1910) was a French pointillist painter known for his atmospheric landscapes. He is acclaimed as a master of Neo-Impressionism and was a significant influence on Henri Matisse and many other artists. In 1884, he founded the "Salon des Indépendants" together with Signac and Seurat. His paintings were characterised by generous brush strokes and bright, clear colours. His later paintings show a significantly softer brushstroke and smoother transitions between techniques.
