Sargent, John Singer Biography
(1856-1925)
John Singer Sargent was an American painter, born in Florence, trained in Rome, Florence and Paris, who worked mostly in London. He specialized in portrait painting and was soon a successful portrayer of the aristocratic, the rich and the beautiful, thanks to his exceptional sense of glamour and stylishness, backed by exhilarating brushwork. The vividness of some of his work reveals the influence of Impressionism.
